I found it to remove matted hair and most knots however depending on the coat of your dog or cat you really need to be gentle when using it. Having said that I am very impressed with this product.

I purchased the comb for my friends Irish Setter who does not like having matts cut out of his coat. the comb works so well, he stood still while I brushed his entire coat matts took a little bit of convincing to get through, but he didn't flinch or move away and let me finish.
